Keone Young originally hails from the Hawaiian Islands. Born in the capital, Honolulu, he found at an early age the passion and love of the magic of theater. Introduced by teachers into the art of stagecraft Young loved building sets and designing lights. When there were a lack of actors willing to do small parts Producers and Directors would plead Young to do a walk on while he was on the stage crew. His first job was the waiter in Death of a Salesman at the Honolulu Community Theater. He also found himself in many chorus parts in musicals such as My Fair Lady and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying with his high school mate Bette Midler.
Catching the performing bug Young went on to California to enroll in the prestigious Pasadena Playhouse College of Theater Arts. He went on to do many stage roles in California and New York and regional theater at the Milwaukee Rep and Dartmouth Rep.
He began working in TV and Films as well guided by his mentor Mako where Young worked at the first Asian American theater, East West Players, where Young became one of its featured members.
TV in starting to promote diversity gave Keone a chance to do roles on the first Bill Cosby show, The Streets of San Francisco, Kojak, Police Story,etc.
As each decade passed Young became more prolific and experienced in Television work and was a much asked for professional. He focused on versatility and skill to work in every market. Comedies such as The Jeffersons, Cheers, Taxi, Different Strokes, Golden Girls, Mike and Molly and Dramas such as NYPD Blue, Hill Street Blues, Magnum PI, St Elsewhere, NCIS,True Blood, Sons of Anarchy, and his most well known Mr Wu in Deadwood.
He also has a Star Trek link playing Buck Bokai a famous ball player from the 24th Century in Star Trek Deep Space 9 and also playing Hoshi’s father in Star Trek Enterprise.
He has a prolific voice actor history as well. The original Storm Shadow on GI Joe, Grandpa on American Dragon, Silver Samurai in X Men, Jeong Jeong the master firebender in Avatar, and many others. He presently stars as Commander Sato in Star War Rebels. He also is the voice of Chen Stormstout in Blizzard’s World of Warcraft.
His film work is extensive as well. Some of his favorite works include working with Francis Ford Coppola in his film Jack, with Al Pacino in Stand Up Guys, playing Wu the Alien in Men in Black 3, and playing Lt Col. Ellison Onizuka on the TV movie Challenger about the tragic space shuttle accident.
Presently residing in Los Angeles Keone Young is still trying to do the best work he can possibly do and loves being a part of an industry that has given him so much.
